Photobucket apparently is doing free advertising for their free accounts

The tag code for paid users looks like this

<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v202/elessarself/odense06.jpg">

or

for a free account it looks like:

<a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v202/elessarself/odense06.jpg" border="0" alt="Image hosting by Photobucket"></a>

or

Image hosting by Photobucket

note that it's
a) clickable and sends you to Photobucket and
b) there's a mouseover ad

we now return you to less than random nonsense....

I noticed that earlier (that you can click on the pic) when I posted several pics in comments, but I didn't put it all together Image hosting by Photobucket

Very Sneaky Indeed!

I noticed it the other day and clicked thinking the graphic was a thumbnail that could be enlarged, but it only went to the photobucket.com page. Didn't register until I went into a free photobucket of mine just now.

Ah well if it's an advertisement at least it doesn't affect the picture itself... that wouldn't be nice!

You can even click on the gif I posted and get the advertisement!

If it messes with my pics, that would be very uncool!

They used to only have the mouseover "hosted by photobucket" which was a clue it was a free account. Wonder what they'll add next to try to shame folks into paying? (It's worth it's $25/yr to me. Ah well.)

i've noticed those 'freebie' versions of the links have caused problems for a couple of folks posting in icon maker comms. the links don't seem to work if the poster is using rich text mode for their post. :-/

Definitely not a good thing and many probably aren't that familiar with html, ya know?

yeah, instead of piccies....there was nothing but code for their tutorial. they were tripping out a bit. couple people helped her figure it out and she got it corrected. between PB and LJ changing all this stuff....i can see why folks are getting frustrated with them. some folks are still having hit-and-miss trouble with my download links. LJ and their bloody changes. half the time they work ok, half the time they don't.

OMG! I hate the new clickable thingy!! I know thumbs are usually smaller, but I still keeep clicking them thinking I'll get a bigger pic. *grumble*

The 'alt' attribute isn't actually supposed to show up on mouseover in IE (other browsers ignore it correctly), but someone messed up with the programming, it's just supposed show up if there's no pic showing for some reason. The correct attribute if you want some mouseover text is the 'title' one. :)

Knew that 'alt' text displays if no picture was there, but didn't realize there was one you were supposed to use!

Now you know!! ;D And, you can use both, with different text. The 'title' one will then take over and show up on mouseover even in IE.

I was wondering why there was an extension for Firefox that showed 'alt' as mouseover text, never knew it wasn't for that purpose!

The extension exists because most people think the alt attribute is for mouseover text and use it that way. And some Firefox users were annoyed because they couldn't see the nifty things people put in there. :) I didn't know about all this until a few months ago myself. There's always something to learn.

WTF???

*scratches head* Sorry but I don't understand a word of this - you may as well all be talking Cantonese!!!

All I know is that I can't open one of Fomoco's pics as I keep getting a Photobucket advert thingy. Jeez, I'm a fully paid up member, why is this happening??

Answers in words of one syllable please.....

The picture seems to be clickable, and it is, but not to a larger pic, the link goes to the photobucket.com website.

*slowly* Okaaaaaay, so it's the link that's at fault and not me then...???

Yes, Fern that pic looks like a clickable thumbnail, but it's not. It's just a small pic. The medium-sized offerings weren't working for me, and the full size was too big (and couldn't find the clickable thumbnail options) so I just made it small. Sorry!

No worries Fomo. It's just that my computer skills are so limited that if the slightest thing doesn't work I go into a right old flap and think I've done something horribly wrong!
