My best of three was 57 wpm. I think maybe it makes a difference whether one is in the habit of correcting as you go (I do that) or typing first, then correcting later. I couldn't make myself not correct my errors when I saw them, even though I knew it negatively effected the timing.

Corrections? Nah. I wait for the red underlines ;)

slowest was 69, highest was 97. I habitually self-correct.

Lousy 76 words per minute. When I worked in data entry I could do 14500 keystrokes per hour. Have no clue how you would translate that to wpm. Ah well, I guess I'm getting old and slow.

Um, I got 53. Can I blame it on my bum left hand? You'd be amazed how fast I can type with only my right!

Correcting as I go, I got 76 the first time and 91 the second time.

You always find the coolest things! My fastest was 71. I need to practice. :p

I found this one on Johnny Depp's IMDb board. LOL

We need to find one that takes errors into account!

I can reliably do around 71-72 wpm, without errors. Any faster & I make a ton of mistakes. I'm actually faster when I'm doing it from my head, rather than reading from a page. I can blaze along in chat while I get stuck reading the next bit. Would never have made a good stenographer ;p

I'm a professional and I'm barely keeping up with y'all! I remember my first typing test as an employment application. It was on an IBM Selectric II and I clocked in at 50 wpm. That was just over the minimum to qualify at AT&T for any "Clerk" office position. The last time I was professionally rated was at Kelly Temp Agency, 65 WPM. But it's a lot faster on a computer because you don't have to press RETURN.

Highest I could get with numerous attempts was 60 wpm. NOT good. Don't think that I will ever be typing for a living, but since I don't want to, don't think it really matters. But maybe if I typed faster I would spend less time on the computer.

I averaged about 65 but I correct as I go and I can't help it either it's just habit.

I learnt to type on the massive old Olympus typewriters when I was about twelve and although I can touch type I find that I do better if I'm not reading something than if I am.

I taught myself from a typing book my father brought home from the junior high school he worked at. :)

65! I correct as I go, I tried not to but it was impossible. And now I want to find one that gives me a Swedish text, I'm pretty sure I'd be faster in my own language. :)

Oh! Didn't think about the language differences!

I'm quite sure there's a difference in doing it in your first language, it's always easier. :)

*new thought*

you use a different keyboard layout than ours right?

Not that different (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keyboard_layout#Finnish.2FSwedish). I have a few extra letters and the colon and semi-colon are placed different.

Isn't it? I knew keyboards looked different in other countries but I'd not investigated it before.
