**Exclusive**

A provocative video hits the internet this week showing male soldiers in Iraq aggressively duct-taping a female soldier to a pole!

Titled, "When your the only girl in the maintenance section," the 4 minute long video shows a laughing female getting wrapped up with heavy tape.

"This is what happens in Iraq when there are no Hummers to fix and your the only chick in the section...AND the only Yankee in a Louisiana unit!" claims poster 'wickedharleyluva' on YOUTUBE.COM.

"OK, I can't breathe," says the laughing female as the video comes to its conclusion. "Don't leave me here."

It appears obvious the soldiers are not harming the woman. But it's quite curious why the clip is being posted on the web.

A top Pentagon source expressed concern over the video late Sunday.

"Excuse me, I am not laughing," said the official, who asked not to be identified.

Hmpf. Looks like a silly little prank to me. But now that some genius (*cough* Matt Drudge *cough*) has made a stink about it, it will probably result in people getting unecessarily disciplined in order to prevent a PR problem.

Personally, I'm actually heartened that they seem to be treating the woman soldier as one of the guys (and that the African American soldier is joining in the prank, not being isolated. So much for the myth that all Southerners are rabid racists). I didn't see anything particularly sexual or oppressive about what they were doing - just farting around like bored, stressed out people will do.

The genius is actually whoever felt the need to record that and whomever felt obliged to upload it to youtube. Otherwise it would've stayed as a silly prank amongst friends *rolls eyes*.

From what I gather, there are loads of videos on YouTube and elsewhere from troops stationed abroad. (Not technologically deprived, our servicemen and women) Most of them, though, are only of interest to the family and friends of the people in them. It takes national attention to make one of them a PR emergency, IMO. But now that other news sources will be combing YouTube for the next (non)story, I wouldn't be surprised if everyone's privileges get yanked, at least temporarily.

They need to ask that chick before pressing any charges against anyone... she was laughing and giggling through her half-hearted protests. Obviously it was a fun way to let off some steam.

Oh! Suddenly I'm reminded of the time when I was 10'ish when my brother and his friend tied me to a clothes line pole on a Saturday and then went out and forgot about me. My mother came home wondering a) what I was yelling about and b) where was I.

I guess so! The truth is I had forgotten all about it, but I sat all of my cousins together at the reception and they got to reminiscing about the good old days of giving the runt a hard time. (I'm not only the youngest in my immediate family, but I'm the youngest of all my cousins too.) But hey, I'm sure I learned lots of valuable survival skills!

There's definitely a line there. If they had even "jokingly" grabbed her breasts, spread her legs, or made any sexual jokes, I'd say the whole incident was totally out of bounds. But she seems to trust them, and they seem to respect her as one of the crew. Who knows if there's a dark side to the story, but based on the vid alone, it looks innocent to me.

I'm not questioning whether it was innocent or not. I just know that I would be nervous. I have an inherent mistrust of a lot of men, but that's just my life experience.

this is interesting, in my hometown there is an incident of 4 boys at football camp who alledgedly ducttaped a player to a bed and threw drinks at him and tortured him but not severly, it was all in fun, he is a freshman and the other four are juniors and seniors. they also videotaped the incident for fun, which shows them all laughing, i have seen the tape as the father of 2 of the boys works for me, and there was nothing bad, it was all in fun, just like this tape.
well, the mom of the ducttape boy is now suing after hearing about this and she has managed to have the boys criminally charged and thrown out of school.
what a world we live in!
