But just for the record, no, Halloween isn't special to me. You know what? I made that story up when I was bored in an interview once and it's come back to bite me ever since. I guess it just goes to show that people will pretty much believe anything.

What made you bring this up?

I think it was a rather unpleasant remark he made to be honest. It was arrogant and superior. Ha! Silly fans and journos they just lap up my words.

Given that this remark was made years ago, and I suspect is in his presspack, given the times it has been mentioned, he is obviously aware it is part of his mythology. OK, explain it isn't true but the part about people believing anything is not funny.

Bad boy Viggo. There is nothing funny about lying and then gloating because people were kind enough to think you might be telling the truth.

Got the magazine in the mail today, 'twas delivered to the wrong house, and the quote popped out at me on first read.

I love those pics.

I think we've all made comments that have come back to bite us in the bum later on - I know that I certainly have.

I don't think that Viggo did it out of malice or any form of badness at all, I think he was just funning, made an off-the-cuff remark, and its turned into an urban myth or should I say a Viggo myth

Makes him seem all the more human, hm?

Speaking as a fan who laps up his comments, does this mean he DIDN'T get the scar when he was drunk on Halloween? duh

Maybe it really was a cleft lip?

Maybe he got it saving orphans and puppies from a house fire and made up the drunken teenager stuff to hide his hero complex? ;-)

Do you think this means he really isn't a reclusive hermaphrodite?

Yes, I'm almost certain he isn't really reclusive. ;-)

Which magazine was this in, please?

Namarie, the article is from the March 2006 edition of Filmlink Magazine from Australia. It's an excellent article, but a really difficult magazine to get hold of. I lost count of the number of places I tried in NZ for it, but luckily a good friend in Australia sent me one.

Maybe I should have placed this in my quirks entry, but Halloween actually is my favorite holiday.

this was probably during his early years and the interviewer was an idiot. The interviewer should have checked his info before printing, to avoid false truths from being printed. I was more upset with viggo saying people would believe anything, only for the reason of what people and who was he directing that comment too
i love halloween and was a little put out when he said this, it really made me happy to think he loved his son that much, to be home with him on this special day.
