Was sorta upset about something, and next meandered through VW and saw these in a political thread (yeah, I know, wowie blows up reading politics. lol), and you know, these quotes really served to calm me down.

Anger is a killing thing: it kills the man who angers, for each rage leaves him less than he had been before - it takes something from him. ~ Louis L'Amour

When our hatred is violent, it sinks us even beneath those we hate. ~ Francois de La Rochefoucauld

How are we ever to find peace and harmony if we cannot find it in ourselves?

I don't know what you were upset about- I hope no one did anything unkind to you. But, yeah, it takes more energy to be angry than not. Sometimes it's just not worth it especially if you know for a fact your anger is in vain b/c the people you're angry with are just clueless. I hope you're ok and that whatever happened is not so bad. : )

Thanks :).

Not something someone did per se (however yo spell that), that something I read that irritated me and was started to get me upset, you know, and reading those quotes really just put it into perspective.

It's so easy to get upset about trivial stuff (and even stuff that should bother you), but is it worth the energy? Not at all. Might as well expend positive energy if at all possible!

I am not much on self-help books, but for one reason or another just read "Too Soon Old, Too Late Smart" by Gordon Livingston. The bit about both positive and negative thinking being self-fulfilling prophecy is one of many things he says that ring true for me. Don't know where I heard it first, but "hatred harms the hater more than the hated" is so true.

All that negative emotion cannot be a good thing, you know? Store it up, and where does it go? It plays off your physical health, and if you're in denial about such feelings you're in big trouble.

I really try to abide by the rule "don't sweat the small stuff", but admittedly that can be difficult at times.

I guess the best remedy really is to take a deep breath and count to ten and think about whether or not what angered you is really that big of a deal in the whole wide scope of things. When you get some perspective on the things that can bug you sometimes, you can learn to live with them. (Kind of). :)

In the greater scheme of things, definitely s'not important.

And more people need to do the deep breath thing.

I agree. It's kind of like when you get a shocking physical pain. Like if someone stomps on your foot or you get stung by a bee - your reaction for the first few seconds is really intense, then when you realize you're actually only minorly injured, you can relax. If a person can manage those first few minutes without lashing out, the result is usually more like indifference than rage.

Problem is, many people just react right away, and don't bother thinking before they speak/type.

Yeah. And so many people that have opinions, despite having next to no facts or context. It just makes problems go baaaaack and forth, baaaack and forth.

Am I the only one annoyed that IMDb still has access to the FAQ via the VFB link? It seems like cheating to me.

Sorry if this is the wrong place for this comment.

It's fine :).

Hermione PMd me about the FAQ, and I gave her that link since that had been up and running for a while. I dunno.

Yes, I remember, but it just doesn't seem right that she is posting something you wrote on a board you don't participate on anymore.

I guess if you don't mind, I shouldn't.
