It’s just about time for the children to head back to school. For some parents, this will come as a bit of a relief. With school in session, the kids will be fully occupied. But most parents are probably seeing dollar signs. The cost of clothes, books and supplies can add up quickly. Well, many states sponsor tax holidays. For a short period of time, you don’t pay state tax on certain purchases. The items covered by the tax holidays vary from state to state. Now for the really good news: Many states are holding tax holidays this weekend! So act fast to save some cash on back-to-school necessities. There are also links to official sites where you can find out more information. If your state has a tax holiday at a different time of the year, mark it on your calendar.

Have you ever been shopping on Tax Free Weekend? It's a nightmare! Worse than the day after Thanksgiving.

Wow I never knew that! That's almost a good idea. Apart from the fact it will be extremely busy during that tiny window.

We've popped in and out of Target a couple of times on MD's day.

We're not listed on that schedule though... nice to not have to pay that extra 5%... which is why when we go to the beach we like to travel up to the Delaware outlets... no tax at all in Delaware all the time!

We don't have that here. We never pay taxes on clothing! Customers in my store have told me about these holidays. I thought it was strange.

Our tax holiday just started yesterday. It is a great help to parents and can also be a boon to those of us without kiddies as well. It's nice to be able to pick up clothing and pens and notebooks and such tax-free for a bit. Especially considering that the usual markup here is 7%!
