Today's Cool Site...

Hello 2007!

New Year's Eve is here, and for many of us, this is a time to look back over the past year. We think about our accomplishments and make plans to accomplish future goals.

But then there are those who like to have a wild time! There's no better place to do this than in New York City. Times Square is the heart of New Year's celebrations in the United States.

If you'll be in the city for New Year's, drop by the Times Square Web site. It has information about all the events and parties you can attend. I'm sure it will be a blast.

Then, tomorrow, you can head out to Coney Island for a Polar Bear swim. The Coney Island Polar Bear Club is the oldest polar bear club in the United States. You can join people from around the country and take a dip in the icy water.

But I'm assuming most of you won't be heading to New York City. That's okay. You can still catch the Times Square festivities via the Web. Just visit EarthCam. It has cameras set up throughout Times Square.

But no matter what you do, you must learn the lyrics to Auld Lang Syne to make your celebrations complete. Most people are familiar with the song, but don't know the words. It was written by Robbie Burns, Scotland's favorite poet. Visit the World Burns Club for the original lyrics and a standard English translation.

I hope you have a fantastic and safe time wherever you are tonight. But more than that, I wish you all the best in the coming year!

Good morning, my fellow early bird. Why is it that every time I have the opportunity to sleep late, I just can't. I'm sure when I have to go back to work on Tuesday, I won't be able to get out of bed.

I have always wanted to check out the Polar Bear Club swim. I should get the family up for that one. It is right near the NY Aquarium, which is a family favorite- maybe a trip to Brooklyn is in the cards for tomorrow.

to you :D

I'd like to spend New Year on a remote beach on the South Island of New Zealand - oh well, maybe next year.

Happy New Year wowie. I love the earthcam site. Obviously, I'm just some dirty little voyeur!! Maya's favourite webcam site is Loch Ness. Amazing how long she can watch a vast expanse of water with little happening.

Hope everyone, whatever you're doing, has a lovely New Year.

There's a polar bear swim here in MD (although I'm sure you know that!). In January.

My brother has lived in the NYC area for years now, and he's always said there's NO WAY he'd go to Times Square on New Years Eve!! (I guess since he works there 5 days a week!!!).

I just could not fall back asleep this morning. So I drank a cup of tea, played online, and went back to snuggle with warm body still in bed. Not that he wanted to snuggle after I woke him up. ;)

A bunch of the athletes at the kids' high school love to do the swim in January. They were trying to get #1 child to do it last year but they didn't convince her.

I can imagine if you're in and out of NYC all the time NYE is one time you wouldn't want to be there.

I'd write those dates in Mr Grump's calendar now, before he decides he's going to be up (down?) a volcano next Dec 31!

I'm w/ your brother laurie, I live in Manhattan and I wouldn't go there at gunpoint. Imagine being crushed by a mob of frozen drunken teens (think "Day of the Locusts") and unable to move in any direction, hemmed in by police barracades, deafened by throbbing boom boxes, the odor of police horse poop wafting thru your nostrils as the scenario of a possible terrorist attack spins thru your mind. It's like being in the subway at rush hour w/o going anywhere. Oh what fun.

Better to watch on the cam.

HAPPY NEW YEAR ALL! :D

Healthy, Happy New Year to all! Providence has a "Bight Night" celebaration. We'll try to catch the 5:30 fireworks. Later, Hubs and I are having our friends over tonight. They have three little ones under 5, plus my two! Should be a hoot.

Abby (6) is determined to stay up until 12 AM. She watched an episode of Arthur, and now it's in her head. I told her she was welcomed to stay up! I'm figuring she'll be asleep by 10! But you watch, that little stinker will probably make it! So much for the games we all play once the little one's are off!

We have spent the last 8 or 9 years with these friends, and we ususally drink (not me this year!) have various appetizers and Chinese or sushi. Once the kids are asleep, we stay up playing some board games. I'm off to the store now to find something fun. You can only play "Trivial Pursuit" so many years in a row!

Everyone have a fun and safe night!

Catch Phrase is pretty fun. :-)

My kids always said they wanted to stay up at that age and ended up crashing.

Oooh Vigwig, you're singin my song! I have always railed against staying home on New Year's, and still miss Times Square. I should have stayed at home, but I'm going stir crazy being shut in with this bug, so we went down to the Embarcadero where the action was, and then to a couple of clubs. Ah, regret. Booze on an empty stomach is just plain stupid at my age, but there ya go. Mark got hit on last night by the biggest, horniest drag queen I've ever seen. Just too damned funny for words watching him squirm. And I got the honor of barfing on his size fifteen glitter platforms. Bleh, indeed. I guess you just can't keep the Irish down in me. Literally. snort

Cheers,

Janet
